Kunstenares Frida Kahlo met haar beschilderde gipskorset<\/p><\/div>\n

11 januari 2019 \u2013 Deze maand wordt op de internationale BRAFA Art Fair een zeldzaam en kostbaar beschilderd gipskorset aangeboden dat toebehoorde aan de beroemde Mexicaanse kunstenares Frida Kahlo. <\/strong>Het stuk komt uit een particuliere collectie en werd vorig jaar nog tentoongesteld in het Britse V&A Museum. Bezoekers van de internationale kunstbeurs kunnen het werk zien in de stand van Gallery Sofie Van de Velde uit Antwerpen. BRAFA 2019 opent van 26 januari t\/m 3 februari in Tour & Taxis, Brussel. www.brafa.art<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Een van de hoogtepunten van de BRAFA Art Fair 2019 is het beschilderde gipskorset van de kleurrijke Mexicaanse kunstenares Frida Kahlo<\/strong> (1907-1954). Het kostbare stuk komt uit een particuliere collectie in Miami en werd in november 2018 tentoongesteld in het Britse V&A Museum<\/strong>. Het korset illustreert het pijnlijke leven van een strijdbare en eigenzinnige vrouw en is eveneens een ode aan haar vrouwelijkheid.<\/p>\n

In haar jeugd al door ziekte getekend, kreeg Frida Kahlo op 18-jarige leeftijd een bijna dodelijk verkeersongeluk waarbij haar wervelkolom en baarmoeder zwaar beschadigd raakten. Een leven vol pijn volgde, ook in de liefde tijdens een chaotisch huwelijk met Diego Rivera<\/strong>. Kahlo\u2019s kunst verbeeldt haar turbulente leven maar is soms ook politiek en sociaal ge\u00ebngageerd. Het korset, in 1950 gedragen tijdens een langdurig verblijf in het ziekenhuis, is een van de twee exemplaren die ze beschilderde. Het toont de baby<\/strong> die ze eerder verloor, evenals de symbolen van de Communistische Partij<\/strong> en de Revolutie, Frida’s ‘enige echte reden om te leven\u2019. De afdruk van haar navel en borsten is duidelijk zichtbaar aan de binnenkant.<\/p>\n

Het korset speelt een sleutelrol in de presentatie van Gallery Sofie Van de Velde<\/strong> (Antwerpen) die op BRAFA debuteert met roze creaties van moderne en hedendaagse kunstenaars rondom het thema \u2018Looking at the World Through Rose Coloured Glasses\u2019. Na BRAFA wordt het korset aan het Brooklyn Museum New York uitgeleend voor een tentoonstelling.<\/p>\n
